Midwife Lilli
Pregnancy, birth and the following weeks and months bring huge changes to a person’s life and identity. In addition to family growth and changes in everyday life, the inner life of the parent can face a tumultuous season of change.
The impacts of birth can stretch far into the future, both for good and for bad. Birth is an opportunity for change. I offer my expertise and support in preparing for birth and working through your birth journey.
As a midwife, I want to offer my customers an unhurried, peaceful and gentle space where they can feel that they are heard and seen. Gentleness, presence and respectful engagement are among the central values that guide my work. I am here to support you on your journey of parenthood.
Birthing experience
At every birth, the birthgiver experiences a transition into something new, both as a parent – whether for the first or perhaps umpteenth time – and also within their identity as a whole. Something new is born in them. They may feel overjoyed and triumphant, with the joy of the newborn child filling every corner of their life. They may feel bitter and disappointed about the birth – even as their new child still fills their life with joy. Sometimes the birth can be traumatic. Time doesn’t heal, even if it does manage to dim the effects of the trauma. Other times the birth may seem to have gone well, from the outside, but the birthgiver is left wondering why their own internal experience doesn’t match with the ‘official account’.
Each birth is a story all of its own – one which at some point will hopefully become intertwined into the life story of the birthgiver. Unresolved experiences and disappointment can hinder this integration, leaving the process incomplete and the birth story living a separate life of its own.
The birthgiver can feel lost and bewildered, while at the same time they may be adjusting to how the birth has changed their identity. Your birth experience matters.
It is best to work through the experience when the time feels right. Sharing your thoughts and experiences with those close to you sometimes is not sufficient or does not feel right. Returning to your birth experience and working through it with a midwife can provide the help you need.
I offer two different services for working through your birth story, Birth Story Medicine® discussion and Birth Debrief. It might be challenging to decide which session to book. Get in touch and I’ll be happy to help you work out which would be right for you.
Services
-
Birth debrief
90min / 110€
An unhurried and open discussion with a midwife about your birth journey. You get the opportunity to freely talk through your own birth story and receive answers to your questions.
-
Birth Story Medicine® -discussion
90min / 110€
In a Birth Story Medicine® (BSM) discussion, developed by an American midwife Pam England you get the chance to process your birth journey at a deeper level through a conversation. You can find new perspectives on events from the birth which feel unresolved or which otherwise weigh on your mind through guided conversation led by a BSM trained midwife. A BSM discussion opens a way to greater freedom, greater empathy towards oneself, and relief from the burden of even the most difficult experiences and emotions.
A Birth Story Medicine® discussion is recommended to be had at least a month since your birth and not more than 7 years from your birth. You can read more about Birth Story Medicine® here.
-
Birth preparation
75min / 90€
Would you like to talk with a midwife about your upcoming birth? Do you need help with writing down your birth plan? In a birth preparation discussion you can, for example, learn about different forms of pain relief and receive help with understanding and expressing your birth-related wishes and concerns. Sometimes birth preparation is more about recognising your emotions and talking about your thoughts regarding the pregnancy. The discussion is structured around your own needs and desires.
“ It was a total pleasure to talk to Lilli and have the opportunity to discuss my birth experience. She was patient, understanding, directional and compassionate in her approach, allowing me to open up and access places I had previously closed off, all whilst provoding me with a safe and permissive space to do so. I was able to rationalise and process trauma from my birth experience and came away with tools to help me manage these feelings. Above all, I felt heard. She listened, didn’t judge and gave me a platform to speak. Thank you Lilli!”

My name is Lilli Radice, I’m a midwife, certified doula and Bachelor of Business Administration. My journey into midwifery was long and unpredictable. Already as a teenager, I became captivated by the mystery of pregnancy and birth, and over the years my excitement and passion grew. I trained and then worked as a doula, and through this process discovered a desire to become a midwife. In retrospect, I can see that my training and work as a doula have greatly enriched the way I work as a midwife. I was privileged to see and learn the strong, positive impact of presence and care when supporting families in pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
My years of midwifery studies and my first years of work as a midwife were impacted by personal infertility. My growth as a midwife therefore came through both practical learning and deep engagement with human limitations in my profession and personal life. During my work in a birthing hospital, it became clear that midwifery is to me not just a job but rather a calling. I enjoy the versatility of the work and endless opportunities for learning and growing. Supporting families during times of huge change in their lives and getting to work with birth givers and the pregnant is inspiring and rewarding. Nowadays I am privileged to be a mother of two small children and to practice midwifery in different forms in both the public and private sector.
